Hong Kong Day 9– Saturday Science Museum and Praises

We have learned that Friday night, heading away from the heart of the city, and Saturday morning heading into the city, the MTR is FULL of people…in my mind I think, oh my, “how can 1 more person squeeze in there?” kind of full.  However, I don’t think the trains get as full in HK as I have heard about in China or even Japan.  For one thing, there are actually MTR “police” who blow their whistles and hold up little yellow stop signs (with smiley faces on them) when the train is full and people need to hold back.  So while we have been on some very full trains today and yesterday, I’ve never had other people pressed up against me while on a train.  However, getting onto the train, off of the train, or riding the escalators away from or toward a train, are completely different stories.  Today we regularly pulled our crew off to the side after ‘alighting’ from a train to wait for most of the crowd to pass…of course we couldn’t wait too long, or another train would appear and more people would unload!

We rode the train down to Hung Hom and walked to the far east section of the Promenade to use up a little time before we ate lunch.  Our ultimate goal was to spend time in the Science Museum, but because Hong Kong generally does not have restaurants inside museums, we needed to eat before we went in. But first, we needed to use up some time, because it was only 10:30!

Today was still very nice outside, but it was a bit hotter than yesterday.  So while I was standing at the railing, enjoying the smell of the salt water, appreciating the views and taking pictures of the bay and Hong Kong Island, my family was trying to create shade -

I told them to just enjoy the heat…pretty soon they would be shivering from overzealous air-conditioning.  They didn’t appreciate my wisdom.

On to the Science Museum!  This museum is really more Children’s Museum than straight-out Science Museum, and that’s a good thing since we adults are outnumbered 4:3  - ps. when you see Timothy, feel free to tell him how wonderful his mother is for counting him as an adult :).

Anywho – the Science Museum was great.  For 5 hours our kids read, maneuvered, listened, poked and prodded stuff on 4 or 5 different floors (I can’t remember).  We laughed at how silly we looked in the Hall of mirrors -

And thanked the Lord that none of them are ready to drive yet during the Taxi Challenge. :)

But the biggest thanksgiving occurred when the Science Museum was far behind us and our supper had been eaten.  We arrived at Ka Hei’s apartment (he has to be in his apartment by 8, so we have dropped him off between 7 and 8 every night) and as his “Auntie” was unlocking the door for us, Ka Hei hid behind Andrew!  He was being very playful, but there was no doubt he wanted to stay with us – woohooo!  His auntie smiled a huge smile at us as she started encouraging Ka Hei to go inside.  We quickly told him that we would be back in the morning :) & gave reassuring hugs.

We walked away from his building with excited smiles on our faces, talking about how far we’ve come…Thank you Lord for the work You are doing in all our hearts!!!

  1. Wow, wow, wow. The words to Matthew West's song keep playing in my head, "What love the Father has lavished upon us that we should be called His children. Hello, my name is Child of the one true King!" God does lavish His love on us - and right now you are the beneficiaries, and we praise God.

  2. I read your blog late this eve, and was touched. It brought back lots of memories of our adoption. Different country, different age, very similar emotions. Relish the precious time you have to get to know your son, and the Hong Kong culture. These are memories you will cherish for a lifetime.

    1. Thank you Rachel. We have been so blessed on this trip and I'm so thankful our whole crew has been here to experience Hong Kong and most importantly make memories with Ka Hei in his homeland.
